My overall research interest is in understanding the role of the ocean in climate variability and change.
Originally I focused on understanding the ocean’s response to wind forcing on time scales from months to seasons. Later, I became more aware that the ocean and the atmosphere are both forcing each other and that the ocean is a central player for the longer climatic time scales from seasons to decades and beyond. More recently, I have worked in climate problems that involve ocean, atmosphere, land, and ice.
I have participated in many research projects over the years. Research highlights of selected projects are available from the “Research” pull down menu above. For a more complete list of my research contributions go to the “Publications” menu.
